Kangaroo Math Classes

Kangaroo Math is a test for All Levels of Students, not just for high achievers. It is a 75 min long test, no calculator, each multiple choice with 5 possible answer choices. No penalty or partial credit is given to unanswered or incorrectly answered questions, so it will be to the student’s advantage to guess questions he or she cannot solve. Kangaroo Level 1-4 is made up of 24 problems and Level 5-6 is made up of 30 problems. In this class, we will concentrate on solving exam problems from past years. For each question, the teacher will present the theory and give multiple ways to solve the problem. Then the students will attempt to solve similar problems on their own. The teacher has pre-selected the most interesting and fun problems from past exams. Finally, the teacher will teach students how to solve problems quickly. Homework will be assigned, and students will be encouraged to work in groups.

AMC 8 Classes (8th Grade or below)

Topics covered in the course include but are not limited to: combinatorics and probability, estimation, proportional reasoning, elementary geometry including the Pythagorean Theorem, spatial visualization, everyday applications, and reading and interpreting graphs and tables. In addition some of the later questions may involve linear or quadratic functions and equations, coordinate geometry, and other topics which may not be traditionally covered in a beginning algebra course.

AMC 10 Classes (10th Grade or below)

The class assumes knowledge of elementary algebra; basic geometry knowledge including the Pythagorean Theorem, area and volume formulas; elementary number theory; and elementary probability. In this class, we will cover some advanced algebra, combinatorics, probability, integer algebra, infinite series, and quadratic and cubic equations. Armed with this knowledge, we will go over past years AMC10 tests and learn how to answer tests quickly and make educated guesses, when the solution is not obvious.

AMC 12 Classes (12th Grade or below)

The AMC 12 covers the entire high school curriculum including trigonometry, advanced algebra, and advanced geometry, intermediate number theory, but excluding calculus. In this course, we will sharpen our math problem solving skills, work on different ways of solving similar problem and even solve some problems from the more difficult AIME exam. The student will be encouraged not just log their mistakes and move on. We will figure out why they made those mistakes—what didn't they know, what they assumed—and practice many similar problems during class and homework time.
