Yes, every teacher must get approved by the administrator before they can start to teach. After you complete your application (6/6), you will be invited for an interview using our Live Online Meeting tool.
You must have the following qualifications to be a tutor at RMT:
- A college diploma in math, economics, physics, or equivalent STEM major.
- At least three years of tutoring experience.
- At least one year of online tutoring experience.
- English level C1 (IELTS 6.5) or better.
For example, high schoolers or college students cannot teach on the platform.
Please make sure you have the following tools before teaching your first trial lesson:
- A solid internet connection. Please run the WebRTC ping test and follow the guidelines at the top of the page.
- A headset connected to the computer or using Bluetooth (the headset must go over your head).
- An excellent digital writing tablet like Wacom or equivalent.
- Access to a quiet room without external noises.
The approval process is highly selective to maintain teaching quality across the platform. Only approximately 1 in 10 applicants successfully completes the entire vetting process and joins the teaching roster. The rigorous screening ensures that RMT students receive instruction from experienced, qualified educators who understand both subject matter and effective online teaching pedagogy. This competitive selection process benefits both students seeking quality instruction and approved teachers who can market themselves as part of an elite teaching community.
During your interview, administrators assess multiple dimensions of your teaching capability. Beyond verifying your academic credentials and experience claims, interviewers evaluate your ability to explain complex mathematical concepts clearly, your communication skills in English, your familiarity with online teaching tools, and your overall professionalism. You may be asked to demonstrate how you would teach a specific math concept, explain your approach to different learning styles, or discuss your experience with various age groups and skill levels. The interview typically lasts 30-45 minutes and provides an opportunity for you to ask questions about platform policies, payment structure, and student demographics.
After approval, you'll need to complete all six profile sections before appearing in public tutor listings. These sections cover personal information, teaching credentials and experience, subject expertise, availability schedule, lesson pricing, and your introduction video. The introduction video deserves special attention as it's often the deciding factor for students choosing between similar tutors. Upload your video to the designated Google Drive folder rather than linking to YouTube or other platforms - this ensures consistent quality and allows the platform to manage video hosting efficiently. Most successful teacher videos are 2-3 minutes long, filmed in the same quiet teaching space you'll use for lessons, and demonstrate both your teaching personality and your technical setup including whiteboard or tablet functionality.
