When you first purchase a lesson, it is "unscheduled." However, once a lesson is scheduled, it can no longer be "unscheduled" by the student. The student can still ask their teacher to unscheduled it, and the lesson will be in the "pending for rescheduling" state.
When a lesson is in the "pending for rescheduling" state, it is essentially in the 'unscheduled' state. You don't need to ask the teacher to unschedule it, as it is already pending rescheduling. You will only be charged once the teacher or the student reschedules it and the teacher conducts the lesson and completes it.
An "unscheduled" lesson will remain unscheduled and will not be charged until it is scheduled again and completed by the teacher.
Note that the money you paid for the lesson will not appear in your wallet, but the lesson will still appear under the "UNSCHEDULED" tab in the lessons screen.
Understanding lesson states helps you manage your lessons effectively. After purchasing lessons, they start in the unscheduled state where you coordinate with your teacher to pick a date and time. Once you or your teacher schedules it, the lesson transitions to a scheduled state with a confirmed date and time. If you need to change that time, you have three options: reschedule it to a new specific time immediately, ask your teacher to unschedule it back to the unscheduled state for later coordination, or cancel it entirely for a refund to your wallet.
Teachers have the ability to unschedule lessons from their dashboard, which is why students should contact their teacher when they need a scheduled lesson moved back to unscheduled status. This teacher-controlled unscheduling prevents students from accidentally creating scheduling chaos, while still giving you full flexibility through teacher coordination. When your teacher unschedules a lesson at your request, you'll see it appear in the "pending for rescheduling" status, which functions exactly like an unscheduled lesson.
The key advantage of keeping lessons in the unscheduled or pending state rather than canceling them is that you preserve any bulk discount pricing you received when purchasing. If you bought 8 lessons at a discounted package rate of $30 per lesson instead of the regular $40, canceling would refund you $30 but you'd have to repurchase at $40. By keeping the lesson unscheduled, that $30 rate is locked in permanently. Your money is already invested in the lesson credit, which is why it doesn't show in your wallet balance - it's allocated to a specific lesson slot that will be charged when the lesson is completed. This system ensures you never lose money due to scheduling changes, while preventing double-charging and preserving your discount pricing benefits.
