“Zurab stands out for his exceptional blend of deep expertise in competitive physics and math and his ability to present complex material in a surprisingly accessible way. He takes the time to understand each boy’s strengths and weaknesses, crafting a personalized study plan that addresses their unique needs.”

— Parent of two competition-math students (coached by Zurab J.)

“I started off not even knowing how to solve most of the problems, but with his guidance I feel a lot more confident and prepared to tackle AIME-type problems.”

— Student preparing for AIME with Ashyrgeldi

“Rather than reciting solutions from the textbook, he guides her to solve the problem herself, gives hints along the way. When I hear her say ‘wow! that’s how it works!’ I know she is learning.”

— Parent of AMC 12 → AIME student

“We are incredibly grateful to have found Oscar. His expertise in competition math is outstanding, and his ability to break down complex concepts into understandable steps has made a significant impact on our son’s learning.”

— Parents of AMC 8/10/12 & AIME student

Why the Russian Math Method Wins at Competitions

  • 1-on-1 Socratic method coaching — problem-solving intuition, not formula memorization
  • Top AMC instructor: 59% AIME qualification
  • 700+ competition students coached from AMC 8 through USAMO and IMO
  • World-class roster: 13 IMO medalists, 2 IMC medalists, 6+ international champions
  • Timed practice tests: Real competition tests on our platform
  • Flexible scheduling: Coaches from 50 countries, 32 languages, any timezone

Why diagnostic-first?

Most AMC prep starts with topical lessons that may or may not match your child’s actual gaps. We flip the order: measure first, then coach where it counts.

1

Why we start with a diagnostic

A 13-year-old who’s good at algebra and weak on combinatorics needs a completely different program than one who’s strong on counting but slow on geometry. Starting with topical lessons before you know which topics matter wastes the most expensive resource in the program: the coach’s time.

The diagnostic is one real past exam under real conditions. From it we get a sharp signal: what your child knows cold, what they almost have, and what they’ve never seen.

2

What the diagnostic delivers

You sit a real past AMC paper on the platform — same questions, same time pressure as the actual competition.

  • Real past AMC questions — not a curated practice set
  • Timed format matching actual competition conditions (40 min for AMC 8, 75 min for AMC 10/12)
  • Topic-level breakdown — correct, incorrect, and skipped by category (algebra, geometry, number theory, counting)
  • Named knowledge gaps — concrete topics to address, not a generic score
3

What happens after

A free 15-minute review with an expert coach — an AIME-qualifier or olympiad medalist — who walks through the results with you and recommends next steps.

  • Specific weaknesses flagged from the diagnostic
  • Recommended coach matched to those gaps
  • Suggested cadence — weekly, biweekly, or intensive sprint

No commitment beyond the review unless you want to continue.

Live Video. Real Whiteboard. No Typing.

Most online AMC programs are group sessions with typed chat — slow, clunky, and disconnected. We use 1-on-1 live video with an interactive whiteboard:

  • →See your tutor explain problems in real time
  • →Draw geometry, write equations, sketch your thinking
  • →Ask questions immediately — no chat lag
  • →Watch IMO medalist coaches solve problems the way mathematicians actually work

Frequently Asked Questions

When should my child start AMC prep?

Most students begin AMC 8 preparation in 5th or 6th grade, though motivated younger students can start earlier. For AMC 10/12, starting at least 6–12 months before the exam gives enough time to build problem-solving depth. The earlier a student develops mathematical thinking habits, the stronger their foundation for harder competitions.

What's the difference between AMC 8, 10, and 12?

AMC 8 is for students in grade 8 and below — 25 questions in 40 minutes covering pre-algebra through introductory geometry. AMC 10 and 12 are for students in grades 10 and 12 respectively — 25 questions in 75 minutes at a significantly higher difficulty. AMC 10 excludes some advanced topics (trigonometry, complex numbers, logarithms) that appear on AMC 12. Top scorers on AMC 10/12 qualify for the AIME.

How does AIME qualification work?

Roughly the top 5% of AMC 10 scorers and top 5% of AMC 12 scorers are invited to take the AIME. The exact cutoff varies each year — typically around 100–105 on AMC 10 and 85–90 on AMC 12. AIME is a 15-question, 3-hour exam where every answer is an integer from 000 to 999. A combined AMC + AIME score then determines qualification for USAJMO (from AMC 10) or USAMO (from AMC 12).

How long does it typically take to go from AMC to AIME?

With consistent 1-on-1 coaching, most students see meaningful score improvement within 3–6 months. Going from a mid-range AMC 10 score to AIME qualification typically takes 6–12 months of focused preparation, depending on the student's starting level and commitment. Some students progress faster when they have strong foundational skills and just need to develop competition problem-solving strategies.

What does a typical tutoring session look like?

Each session is a live 1-on-1 video call with your child's coach. The coach presents problems, guides your child through the reasoning using Socratic questioning, and adapts the difficulty in real time. Sessions typically cover 4–8 problems with deep discussion of solution strategies, common traps, and alternative approaches. Homework is assigned between sessions for independent practice.

★★★★★

“My child has been having class with Meiram. He's extremely patient. He focuses on the thinking process a lot. After a few classes I can see a change in how my child approaches problems. She doesn't give up easily and believes that she can solve the problems on her own.”

“Shabnam is absolutely wonderful! She's a very smart teacher who is consistently friendly and patient with my 11-year-old and 8-year-old even when they're not in the best of their learning moods. She explains concepts very well in different ways if needed, articulates very well, and has wonderful positive energy overall. We highly, highly recommend her!”

“Lilit Khiat is the best math tutor we have worked with. She easily found a way to engage with our son and connect with him to make him feel comfortable. She's encouraging and makes math accessible to him, actually improving his participation and his drive for wanting to learn more. He's always happier and feels better after coming out of a lesson and is getting more and more confident with math. I would highly recommend working with her.”
