Russian Math Tutors Comes to South San Jose with Its First In-Person Learning Center

Students in grades 1-8 can now sign up for small-group, reasoning-first math classes. Register for a free evaluation, today.

SAN JOSE, Calif., July 13, 2026 – After years of online success, Russian Math Tutors is now opening its first in-person learning center in South San Jose. Founder Alexander Kolchinsky launched the platform back in 2020 to teach elementary and middle school math with traditional Russian, logic-based techniques. In 2026, its physical space opens up at 175 Bernal Road in South San Jose. It features small group sizes, a zero-cost trial week, and attractive discounts for students in grades 1 through 8. Families can lock in the spots right now for the 2026-27 academic year.

How Kids Learn Math Here

Russian Math Tutors expands from an online-only learning model to offer classroom-based education. For the first time, families in South San Jose can sign up for the company's in-person, after-school math program that uses the Peterson Activity Method. It is a hands-on, reasoning-first, inquiry-based teaching approach developed in Russia and is widely used in classrooms there and in Israel.

Instead of giving students ready-made formulas to memorize, tutors guide them to get to the core concepts on their own. This approach builds real-world problem-solving and critical thinking skills. These math classes in South San Jose also introduce children to many complex topics before they even see them in school.

"This isn't extra homework. It's also not a repeat of what kids already learn at school," said Alexander Kolchinsky, founder of Russian Math Tutors. "Our teachers ask questions instead of giving answers so our students can themselves figure out how math actually works. When a child reasons their way to an idea, they can truly master it – that's the whole point."

Smaller Batches, Free Trial, and Early Bird Incentives

Class sizes at Russian Math Tutors' new South San Jose learning center are capped at just eight students per group. The batches are much smaller compared to most elementary and middle school math tutoring centers in San Jose. Keeping groups smaller means no one gets left behind. Every child gets enough attention to speak up and actively participate in each session.

Before enrolling, new families can try out the program for free. This is a zero-risk opportunity to visit the new facility, meet the instructor, and confirm the child's suitability for the program.

"Most parents wish to see what the learning environment is like before they commit to it full time. That's why we open the first week free of cost to anyone who wants to try our group classes," Kolchinsky said.

Those who register before August 14, 2026, get a 15% early-bird discount on tuition for the upcoming September-June academic year. Classes for grades 1 through 8 are available on weekday evenings and weekend mornings.

Expanding Online Success to Physical Classrooms

Until now, Russian Math Tutors has operated entirely online. They have built a reputation for offering solid results via private, one-on-one virtual coaching. They tutor elementary and middle school students and provide coaching for competitions like the AMC, AIME, USAJMO, and USAMO. The new South San Jose learning center brings that exact same energy, approaches, and interactivity straight into a physical space.
