“Shabnam is absolutely wonderful! She’s a very smart teacher who is consistently friendly and patient with my 11-year-old and 8-year-old even when they’re not in the best of their learning moods. She explains concepts very well in different ways if needed and has wonderful positive energy overall.”

— Parent of two (coached by Shabnam S.)

“My child has been having class with Meiram. He’s extremely patient. He focuses on the thinking process a lot. After a few classes I can see a change in how my child approaches problems. She doesn’t give up easily and believes that she can solve the problems on her own.”

— Parent of competition-track student (coached by Meiram Z.)

“My son has been with Teacher Shabnam for over 2 years. I really like how she challenges my son with different ways of arriving at the answer. By challenging my son, that ensures he really understands the problem. She is also very organized and sends the classwork images so we can review.”

— Long-term parent (coached by Shabnam S.)

“Meiram is an outstanding math teacher. He’s patient, thorough, and takes the time to ensure his students truly understand the concepts. He has been an incredible support for all three of my children — ages 8, 13, and 15 — and each of them has significantly improved their math skills.”

Why Our MATHCOUNTS Coaching Wins

  • 1-on-1 coaching for grades 6–8 — problem-solving intuition over speed-drill, the only way to crack the harder Sprint and Target problems
  • Verified Olympiad-level coaches: IMO and IMC medalists who’ve trained AIME and USAMO qualifiers — MATHCOUNTS material is well within their range
  • All four rounds covered: Sprint pacing, Target multi-step strategy, Team collaboration, and Countdown buzzer reflexes
  • Real past MATHCOUNTS papers on our platform — Chapter, State, and National rounds from prior years for authentic pacing
  • The Chapter → State → National progression: coaches calibrate prep difficulty as your student advances through stages
  • A direct on-ramp to AMC 8 and AMC 10: the same coaches scale your child up to high-school competitions when they’re ready

Live Video. Real Whiteboard. No Typing.

Most online MATHCOUNTS programs are group sessions with typed chat — slow, clunky, and disconnected. We use 1-on-1 live video with an interactive whiteboard:

  • →See your tutor explain problems in real time
  • →Draw geometry, write equations, sketch your thinking
  • →Ask questions immediately — no chat lag
  • →Watch IMO medalist coaches solve problems the way mathematicians actually work

About MATHCOUNTS

What is MATHCOUNTS?

MATHCOUNTS is a national problem-solving competition for students in grades 6–8, founded in 1983 and run by the MATHCOUNTS Foundation. It runs in three stages each school year: Chapter (early February), State (March), and National (May). Top scorers advance from one stage to the next.

Each competition has four rounds: Sprint (30 problems / 40 minutes / no calculator), Target (8 problems in 4 timed pairs / calculator allowed), Team (10 problems / 20 minutes / team of 4), and Countdown (head-to-head, oral, buzzer).

Why it matters

MATHCOUNTS is one of the strongest middle-school competition credentials in the U.S. Reaching State or Nationals is a notable achievement that signals serious problem-solving talent — and is a meaningful line on a high-school or magnet-school application.

Beyond the trophy, MATHCOUNTS prep is the best on-ramp to AMC 8 and AMC 10. The topics overlap heavily, and the multi-round format builds three things AMC tests reward: speed, accuracy, and the ability to switch problem-solving styles mid-test.

What good MATHCOUNTS prep looks like

MATHCOUNTS rewards fast, accurate problem-solving across many topics — algebra, geometry, number theory, counting, probability. The hard part isn’t depth; it’s breadth and pacing. Cracking the late Sprint problems and the multi-step Target pairs takes more than memorized formulas.

Sessions blend topic-by-topic deep dives with timed mock rounds built from real past Chapter, State, and National papers. Coaches focus on the recurring tricks — clever counting, casework, invariants, the right diagram — that turn a guess into a clean solution. Countdown reflexes get their own targeted drills as Chapter approaches.

“Lilit Khiat is the best math tutor we have worked with. She easily found a way to engage with our son and connect with him to make him feel comfortable. She's encouraging and makes math accessible to him, actually improving his participation and his drive for wanting to learn more. He's always happier and feels better after coming out of a lesson and is getting more and more confident with math. I would highly recommend working with her.”
