“Shabnam was an amazing tutor. My daughter really enjoyed her lesson. We will work with her again.”

— RMT parent (tutor: Shabnam S.)

“My child has been having class with Meiram. He's extremely patient. He focuses on the thinking process a lot. After a few classes I can see a change in how my child approaches problems. She doesn't give up easily and believes that she can solve the problems on her own. ”

— RMT parent (tutor: Meiram Z.)

“Our 9-year-old son is miles ahead of the rest of his class in Math because of Russian Math tutoring. His tutor not only helps with math but will help reinforce foreign language lessons while teaching. I will be enrolling our other children soon. Highly recommend.”

— RMT parent (tutor: Guillaume S.)

Why Our ACT Math Tutoring Works

  • 1-on-1 Socratic-method tutoring — students learn the underlying math — then apply it to real ACT questions under time pressure
  • Score-targeted prep — diagnostic first, then a plan focused on the specific question types where you’re losing points
  • Online or in-person — 1-on-1 online, in-person at our San Jose center, or in-home with selected tutors

Live Video. Real Whiteboard. No Typing.

Most online ACT Math programs are group sessions with typed chat — slow, clunky, and disconnected. We use 1-on-1 live video with an interactive whiteboard:

  • →See your tutor explain problems in real time
  • →Walk through real ACT problems step by step
  • →Ask questions immediately — no chat lag
  • →Watch BYOM-trained tutors explain the math behind every question type

ACT Math Prep — 4 Phases to Your Target Score

Our ACT Math prep is a four-phase program tuned to the ACT Math section’s 60-question, 60-minute format. Every student starts with a full diagnostic, then your tutor builds a plan targeting the specific content areas where you’re losing points.

ACT Math covers six content areas: Pre-Algebra, Elementary Algebra, Intermediate Algebra, Coordinate Geometry, Plane Geometry, and Trigonometry. We cover all six with real ACT material and emphasize the pacing discipline the test demands.

Phase 1 · Diagnostic & Foundations

  • Unit 1 · Full-Length Diagnostic + Score Analysis (4 lessons)

Take a timed official ACT practice test. Review every missed and guessed question. Identify weak content areas and question-type patterns. Build a personalized target-score plan.

  • Unit 2 · Pre-Algebra & Elementary Algebra (10 lessons)

Integers, fractions, decimals, percents. Ratios and proportions. Mean, median, mode. Linear equations and inequalities. Algebraic expressions. Exponents.

Phase 2 · Algebra & Problem-Solving

  • Unit 3 · Intermediate Algebra (10 lessons)

Quadratic equations and inequalities. Functions and function notation. Systems of equations. Radicals and rational expressions. Complex numbers. Logarithms and exponentials.

  • Unit 4 · Coordinate Geometry (8 lessons)

Slope, distance, midpoint. Equations of lines and circles. Graphing functions. Transformations of graphs. Conic sections (brief).

Phase 3 · Geometry & Trigonometry

  • Unit 5 · Plane Geometry (10 lessons)

Angles and lines. Triangles, including congruence and similarity. Quadrilaterals and polygons. Circles: arcs, chords, tangents. Perimeter, area, volume formulas.

  • Unit 6 · Trigonometry (8 lessons)

Right-triangle trig (SOH-CAH-TOA). Unit circle. Trig identities. Graphs of trig functions. Law of sines and cosines (occasional).

Phase 4 · Timing & Full-Length Practice

  • Unit 7 · Pacing & Test-Taking Strategy (6 lessons)

60 questions in 60 minutes — the pacing math. Calculator strategy (ACT allows most calculators). Question-skipping discipline. Managing anxiety and endurance.

  • Unit 8 · Full-Length Practice Tests & Review (8 lessons)

Full-length timed practice tests under real conditions. Section-by-section review. Targeted error analysis. Final score projection and test-day prep.

Official ACT Content Areas

Content distribution follows ACT, Inc.’s published ACT Math specifications:

  • Pre-Algebra — ~20% of the Math section
  • Elementary Algebra — ~17%
  • Intermediate Algebra — ~15%
  • Coordinate Geometry — ~15%
  • Plane Geometry — ~23%
  • Trigonometry — ~10%

Your tutor will prioritize content areas based on your diagnostic and your target score. A typical prep program runs 8–12 weeks at 2 lessons per week; intensive 4-week crunches are also possible.

About RMT ACT Math Prep

What it is

ACT Math prep is a score-targeted, diagnostic-first program. Every student starts with a full-length official ACT practice test; your tutor reviews every missed and guessed question before building a personalized plan.

We cover all six ACT Math content areas: Pre-Algebra, Elementary Algebra, Intermediate Algebra, Coordinate Geometry, Plane Geometry, and Trigonometry — with emphasis on the specific question types where your student is losing points, and the brutal 60-in-60 pacing the test demands.

Why RMT for ACT Math

Most ACT prep services teach tricks for passing the test. We teach the math behind the tricks — so students answer questions correctly the first time, without relying on elimination or guessing.

Our tutors come from the BYOM Russian-math tradition. That depth pays off on the hard-end ACT Math questions where shortcuts stop working and real algebraic thinking wins points.

How lessons work

Sessions are 1-on-1 or small-group (2–4 students) over live video with an interactive whiteboard — so your tutor can walk through ACT problems step by step and see where your student’s reasoning is breaking down. Prefer in person? Families in the South Bay can join in-person classes at our San Jose Bernal Road center, and selected tutors across the country also offer in-home sessions at their own locations — check each tutor’s profile for availability.

Standard pacing is 2 lessons per week for 8–12 weeks leading up to the test date. Intensive 4-week programs (4 lessons/week) are available for students closer to the exam.

Frequently Asked Questions

How does ACT Math differ from SAT Math?

ACT Math is faster (60 questions in 60 minutes vs SAT’s more generous pacing), includes more direct trigonometry and plane geometry, and allows most calculators throughout. SAT Math leans more on multi-step reasoning and context-heavy word problems. We often help students decide which test suits them better.

How long should ACT Math prep take?

A standard program is 8–12 weeks at 2 lessons per week — enough time to diagnose, address weak areas, and run multiple full-length practice tests. Students closer to the exam often do intensive 4-week programs at 4 lessons/week.

Do you use real ACT practice tests?

Yes. Diagnostics and full-length practice tests are drawn from official ACT, Inc. sources. We supplement with additional problems only where extra drilling is needed on a specific content area.

“Shabnam is absolutely wonderful! She's a very smart teacher who is consistently friendly and patient with my 11-year-old and 8-year-old even when they're not in the best of their learning moods. She explains concepts very well in different ways if needed, articulates very well, and has wonderful positive energy overall. We highly, highly recommend her!”

“Lilit Khiat is the best math tutor we have worked with. She easily found a way to engage with our son and connect with him to make him feel comfortable. She's encouraging and makes math accessible to him, actually improving his participation and his drive for wanting to learn more. He's always happier and feels better after coming out of a lesson and is getting more and more confident with math. I would highly recommend working with her.”
