“Amazing place and tutors to develop your understanding in mathematics. Our tutor Meiram is extremely attentive and explains not just problems but also concepts in great detail to help boost math skills. Highly recommend!”

— RMT parent (tutor: Meiram Z.)

“My son really enjoyed his lesson with Ashyrgeldi Atayev. Ashyrgeldi Atayev explained the problems clearly, guided him through each step, and encouraged him to think and participate instead of just listening. He was patient and engaging. We had a very positive experience and have already scheduled more lessons.”

“We have a wonderful experience with Damir N. as our son's Russian Math tutor. He has a gift for taking complex logical concepts and making them accessible and engaging. Since starting sessions with him, we've seen a significant boost in our son's confidence and problem-solving skills. Damir is patient, professional, and clearly invested in his students' success. We highly recommend him to any parent looking for high-quality math instructor.”

Why Our Calculus Tutoring Works

  • 1-on-1 Socratic-method tutoring — students derive the derivative and integral from first principles, not just apply the chain rule
  • BYOM Peterson curriculum — AP Calc AB/BC-aligned: limits, derivatives, integrals, applications, differential equations, series
  • Online or in-person — 1-on-1 online, in-person at our San Jose center, or in-home with selected tutors

Live Video. Real Whiteboard. No Typing.

Most online Calculus programs are group sessions with typed chat — slow, clunky, and disconnected. We use 1-on-1 live video with an interactive whiteboard:

  • →See your tutor explain problems in real time
  • →Draw graphs, write equations, sketch your thinking
  • →Ask questions immediately — no chat lag
  • →Watch BYOM-trained tutors derive math the way Russian mathematicians learned it — discovery first, formulas second

Calculus Curriculum — 100 Lessons, 4 Quarters

Calculus at Russian Math Tutors is aligned with AP Calculus AB and BC and drawn from the BYOM (Build Your Own Math) Peterson tradition. 100 lessons over four quarters covering limits, derivatives, integrals, and their applications — with BC extensions for series, polar, and parametric calculus.

Unlike a typical AP Calc class that rushes through theorems to get to AP-test tricks, we insist students derive the fundamental theorem of calculus, understand epsilon-delta rigor, and see why each rule follows from limits. The result: higher AP scores and better preparation for college STEM. Your tutor will diagnose your student’s starting point and may accelerate or pace the sequence to fit.

Quarter 1 · 25 Lessons

  • Unit 1 · Limits and Continuity (12 lessons)

Intuitive and rigorous definition of limit. One-sided limits. Limits at infinity. Continuity and types of discontinuity. Intermediate value theorem. Squeeze theorem.

  • Unit 2 · The Derivative (13 lessons)

Derivative as a limit of difference quotients. Interpretation as slope and rate of change. Differentiability vs continuity. Derivatives of polynomials and basic functions.

Quarter 2 · 25 Lessons

  • Unit 3 · Differentiation Rules (12 lessons)

Product, quotient, and chain rules. Derivatives of trig, exponential, and log functions. Implicit differentiation. Related rates.

  • Unit 4 · Applications of the Derivative (13 lessons)

Mean value theorem. Critical points, extrema. First and second derivative tests. Concavity and inflection points. Optimization. L’Hôpital’s rule.

Quarter 3 · 25 Lessons

  • Unit 5 · The Integral (13 lessons)

Riemann sums. The definite integral. The fundamental theorem of calculus (both parts). Antiderivatives and the indefinite integral. Basic integration techniques.

  • Unit 6 · Techniques of Integration (12 lessons)

Substitution. Integration by parts (BC). Partial fractions (BC). Trigonometric integrals (BC). Improper integrals (BC).

Quarter 4 · 25 Lessons

  • Unit 7 · Applications of the Integral (12 lessons)

Area between curves. Volumes of solids of revolution (disks, washers, shells). Arc length. Differential equations and slope fields. Separation of variables. Exponential growth/decay.

  • Unit 8 · Series & Parametric/Polar (BC) (13 lessons)

Convergence of sequences and series. Power series. Taylor and Maclaurin series. Parametric and polar functions. AP exam review and timed practice.

Official BYOM Syllabus

This outline is aligned with the AP Calculus AB and BC course outlines and the BYOM Calculus syllabus.

  • BYOM Calculus Syllabus — complete lesson-by-lesson breakdown available on request

Your tutor will tailor the pace and sequence to your student’s background and goals. AP Calc AB students focus on Units 1–7; BC students cover all eight units. Most students complete the full year in about 50 weeks (2 lessons/week).

About RMT Calculus

What it is

Calculus covers limits, derivatives, integrals, and their applications. At RMT, it’s a 100-lesson program drawn from the BYOM (Build Your Own Math) Peterson curriculum and aligned with AP Calculus AB and BC.

We cover everything the AP exam tests, plus the rigorous epsilon-delta foundations and proof-based derivations of the fundamental theorem — preparation that makes college Calc 1/2 feel like review rather than a new course.

Why Russian Math matters

A standard AP Calc class teaches students to apply the chain rule. We teach them to derive it — and to understand why every differentiation rule follows from the definition of a limit. That depth translates directly to higher AP scores and smoother college STEM.

Alumni of BYOM-style programs are overrepresented in Russian math olympiad teams and top STEM universities — a track record going back decades.

How lessons work

Sessions are 1-on-1 or small-group (2–4 students) over live video with an interactive whiteboard — so your tutor can draw, write equations alongside the student, and see their thinking in real time. Prefer in person? Families in the South Bay can join in-person classes at our San Jose Bernal Road center, and selected tutors across the country also offer in-home sessions at their own locations — check each tutor’s profile for availability.

Standard pacing is 2 lessons per week over the school year (about 50 weeks for the full 100 lessons). Students who want to accelerate can double up to 4 lessons/week. No long-term contract — lessons are bought individually or in packages.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you cover both AP Calculus AB and BC?

Yes. AB students focus on Units 1–7 (limits, derivatives, integrals, applications). BC students cover all eight units, adding integration by parts, partial fractions, series, Taylor/Maclaurin, and parametric/polar calculus.

Can we focus on AP exam review only?

Absolutely. If your student is near the exam date, your tutor can skip the deep-dive and work exclusively on timed free-response problems and multiple-choice practice.

What prerequisites does Calculus need?

Solid Pre-Calculus (functions, trig, exponentials, limits introduction). A quick diagnostic on the first lesson will confirm readiness and flag any gaps to address early.

★★★★★

“My child has been having class with Meiram. He's extremely patient. He focuses on the thinking process a lot. After a few classes I can see a change in how my child approaches problems. She doesn't give up easily and believes that she can solve the problems on her own.”

“Shabnam is absolutely wonderful! She's a very smart teacher who is consistently friendly and patient with my 11-year-old and 8-year-old even when they're not in the best of their learning moods. She explains concepts very well in different ways if needed, articulates very well, and has wonderful positive energy overall. We highly, highly recommend her!”

“Lilit Khiat is the best math tutor we have worked with. She easily found a way to engage with our son and connect with him to make him feel comfortable. She's encouraging and makes math accessible to him, actually improving his participation and his drive for wanting to learn more. He's always happier and feels better after coming out of a lesson and is getting more and more confident with math. I would highly recommend working with her.”
